Terms of Service

Effective date: August 2026

These terms apply to the RedSleep iPhone app and this website. By using RedSleep, you agree to them. If you don't, please don't use the app.

What RedSleep Does

RedSleep is a nighttime ritual app. It is designed to make late-night phone use harder, deliberately, on a schedule you set. Specifically:

  • Wind-Down. For the hour before your chosen time, the app prompts you to turn on a red screen tint. Your apps stay open and nothing interrupts you.
  • The Protocol. After that, RedSleep uses Apple's Screen Time framework to shield the apps you selected, until your chosen end time.
  • Spoken re-entry. To reopen a shielded app you say a phrase you wrote, aloud, several times. You choose how many repetitions in advance.
  • The re-entry ladder. Each successful unlock grants less time than the one before: 10 minutes, then 8, 6, 4, and 2. Every later break that night is 2 minutes. The app does not refuse you and does not grant zero minutes.

RedSleep can always be undone — you can stop the Protocol, change your settings, or delete the app. It is built to cost more effort than it's worth, not to be impossible to escape.

Not a Medical Service

RedSleep is a general wellness and habit tool. It is not a medical device, and nothing in the app or on this site is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It is not a treatment for insomnia, any sleep disorder, or any mental health condition.

If you're concerned about your sleep or your health, talk to a qualified professional. Don't delay doing so because of anything RedSleep tells you.

Not a Safety or Emergency Device

RedSleep shields only the apps you choose. It does not restrict Phone, Messages, or emergency calling, and you should not rely on it to do so. Equally, do not rely on it to block anything in a situation where being blocked could cause harm. Software fails; a shield may not appear, or may not clear, when you expect.

Device Permissions

RedSleep asks for Screen Time access to shield apps, and for microphone and speech recognition access to hear your phrase. You can decline or revoke any of these in iOS Settings. Some features simply won't work without them, and the app will tell you which.

Your Account

Some features need an account. You're responsible for keeping access to it secure, and for the content you put into the app — including the phrase you write. Don't use someone else's account without their permission.

RedSleep isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Cost

RedSleep is currently free to download and use. If that ever changes, we'll say so clearly before it applies to you, and existing terms won't change retroactively.

Acceptable Use

Please don't:

  • Use RedSleep to restrict another person's device without their knowledge and consent
  • Reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute the app
  • Interfere with the service or attempt to access accounts that aren't yours
  • Use it for anything unlawful

Availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, and the app depends on services we don't control — Apple's frameworks among them. We don't promise uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Ending These Terms

You can stop at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken, or if we stop offering the service.

Disclaimers and Liability

RedSleep is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't warrant that it will improve your sleep, change your habits, or reliably block anything.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of RedSleep, including anything you missed while apps were shielded.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these exclusions, in which case they may not apply to you.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms. If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date above and note it in the app or on this page. Continuing to use RedSleep after that means you accept the revision.
